Power Delivery and Cabling

In today's data centers, the little things people used to take for granted can make a big difference. Power delivery and signal cables are a good example. You can't just run them anywhere you want anymore. With today's power densities, an air passage or plenum that's partially blocked by cables or a PDU can restrict the flow of cool air enough to overheat a server and send it into failure mode, possibly putting an SLA in jeopardy.

Under these conditions, a matter some people may have taken for granted – the type of cabinet you choose to house your servers – plays a much more important role in your total uptime numbers. With our patent-pending SharkTRAC technology, our cabinets can house multiple PDUs and cabling in the Zero U spaces on the sides of the cabinet to keep the airflow path open and improve cooling. And, using our unique SharkSNAP mounting hardware (including standard 1U power strips) in Zero U space is a breeze – without tools!

There's yet another benefit to standardizing on SharkRack cabinets - Cable routing can be consistently organized from cabinet to cabinet. This tends to reduce mistakes, particularly when maintenance is outsourced or staff turnover is high, and a confusing tangle of cables can encourage newcomers to pull the wrong plug or throw the wrong switch.
