Unfortunately, Sun's proprietary rack-mount kit for the V880 poses a number of problems to the data center worker. First, it does not adequately address the reality that mounting the product, which weighs over 300 pounds fully loaded, can be a dangerous and time-consuming affair. Second, the kit does not allow the user to mount the V880 in a standard cabinet.

To address these problems, SharkRack has developed the 40-V880-R19-H, an alternative rack-mount kit with a number of advantages over Sun's kit. SharkRack's kit offers flexible depth in mounting from 24" to 36.5", allowing it to rack in any 19" EIA standard cabinet. It allows the sliding arms to be installed individually and then the bottom tray to be mounted to the sliding arms. One person can easily manage this task. The sliding tray snaps in place when it is fully extended and is held there by a set of metal locks, unlike the plastic locks on the Sun counterpart kit.

SharkRack has added a front handle to the sliding shelf that has an attractive plastic face. A durable metal handle hides beneath the plastic face, ensuring that a hardy tug on the sliding tray will not break the handle. Injected plastic moldings on the top and sides of the 40-V880-R19-H kit accent the Sun V880 and allow for an overall cleaner presentation.
